"Bring on the summer"- A catch up with one of our new members

26 January 2017

With less than three months to go until the the start of the 2017 season, we caught up with one of our newest members Matthew Commander.

Matthew become a member for the first time in 2016 and enjoyed it so much, he has already renewed for the 2017 season.

Where are you from originally?

I was originally from Devon and went to Queen’s College, Taunton but in 2000, I saw the light and moved to Bristol!

Why did you join?

I have always been a cricket fan and played at school. My 9 year old son, Freddie, plays for Rockhampton Cricket Club. He loves his cricket too, his interest prompted us both to join.

What was your highlight of 2016?

It has to be the Somerset T20. What a day that was! Freddie was so excited to get two players’ autographs including, best of all, Chris Gayle.

Who do you normally come along with?

We usually come along with another Dad and a few of Freddie’s friends. There is always a brilliant atmosphere and we all have a great time.

Who is your favourite player?

Ian Cockbain. We also loved meeting Hamish Marshall last season – a top bloke and a great player!

What is your favourite spot to watch from?

We enjoy sitting on the benches in front of The Pavilion. Freddie loves seeing the players coming in and out.

What are you looking forward to most this season?

We are looking forward to seeing our developing young side over the entire season, however the main highlight will surely be the Somerset t20 on 4th August. We are also coming to the England v West Indies ODI in September. We can’t wait! Bring on the summer!

What’s your favourite part of being a member?

Freddie loves the occasions when he can meet the players. From my point of view, it’s lovely to put all the games in the diary and to have so much to look forward to throughout the summer. I appreciate the discount at the bar too!

What would you say to someone considering becoming a member?

Just do it! It’s great value for money and you’ll have a fantastic time. Go Glos!!
