Bring On Somerset Says Happy Michael

16 June 2013

Michael Klinger is looking forward to two battle royals with Somerset in the second half of the YB40 campaign after Gloucestershire kept the pressure on their arch-rivals with a 36-run win over Yorkshire at Bristol.

With Somerset also winning at home to Leicestershire, the neighbours are locked together on 11 points at the top of Group C, but Klinger's men have a game in hand.

The skipper was heartened by another fine display against Yorkshire. Chris Dent top scored with 56 as his side posted 229-6 in a match reduced by rain to 27 overs per side.

David Payne then took 4-44 and there were two wickets each for James Fuller and young off-spinner Miles Hammond as Yorskshire were restricted to 193 all out in reply.

After the game Michael Klinger told this website: “Somerset are a very good side and we respect them.  But we are a good side as well and I have no doubt we can knock them over.

“We will have nothing to lose when we play Somerset and we will enjoy being underdogs.

“Few would have backed us to be in this position when were got smashed in our first game against Leicestershire, but we’ve got our game-plan right and, more importantly, executed with both the bat and ball since then.

“With Somerset winning, this was a vital win for us. These shortened games can go either way and we were not sure what a good score would be.

“Fortunately, we showed our skills set with bat and ball and this performance will give us a lot of confidence. We feel we are building momentum and can beat anyone in the group.

“Every game is going to be tight and we have some tough ones still to play. But we will believe we can win every one of them.

“We have a long break until our next game in this competition, but we will be ready to go at it hard when we come back in August.”
