Brewin Dolphin Cricket Festival - Round Up Day 3
13 July 2012
BREWIN DOLPHIN CHELTENHAM CRICKET FESTIVAL
GLOUCESTERSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB v ESSEX COUNTY CRICKET CLUB
LV= County Championship – Day 3 of 4 – Friday 13 July 2012
Round Up for Day 3
It's the third day of the 2012 Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival and Friday 13th certainly lived up to its reputation. Due to all the heavy rain yesterday, and despite glorious sunshine for most of today, the Umpires deemed the playing surface too wet to allow for any cricket. Gloucestershire, therefore, remain on 284-4 in their first innings.
* This inaugural match of the Festival has been dedicated in memory of Martin Stovold. Martin was a former player of GCCC and latterly a valued member of Cheltenham College’s Geography Department and Housemaster of Newick House.
* The giant screen, which has been supplied by LED Sport Europe, is being used as an additional scoreboard. Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is the first County Club to take advantage of this initiative and today the screen was put to good use by playing back the highlights from days 1 and 2.
* Nat West CricHQ - the cricket app, used by Gloucestershire Cricket, is powering the big screen that will be used throughout the Festival.
* The Nat West CricHQ app can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes store or Google play. For more information visit www.crichq.com.
* Two parties of school children from All Saints’ Primary and Woodchester Endowed Primary spent the day at the Festival. They enjoyed free coaching sessions during the morning and had the opportunity of meeting with a number of Gloucestershire players.
Looking ahead to Day 4
* The Abercrombie & Kent Coaching Zone will be running free coaching sessions for juniors in the College’s lower gym.
* Exiles Lunch
This ever-popular event, held in a private marquee, will take place tomorrow. Each year well over 100 Exiles and guests gather at what is often referred to as the “Spiritual home” of the Exiles, with many Members travelling great distances to attend. They have even had one Exile come back from Australia! Members of the County Committee will also be in attendance as will members of the playing staff.
