Round Up for Day 2
It's the second day of the 2012 Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival. Play got underway in our LV= County Championship match v Essex under glorious sunshine this morning, with Gloucestershire resuming on 147-2. Following lunch, the rain clouds arrived and play was suspended at 3.00 pm with Gloucestershire on 284-4. After an afternoon of continuing rainfall, play was called off just before 5.00 pm.
* Our first match of the Festival has been dedicated in memory of Martin Stovold. Martin was a former player of GCCC and latterly a valued member of Cheltenham College’s Geography Department and Housemaster of Newick House.
* Following the presentation of his County Cap yesterday, Ed Cowan scored his maiden first class century for Gloucestershire before being dismissed for 103.
* The PCA held their annual former players’ day, which was extremely well attended. Members and supporters had lots of opportunity to meet up with their playing heroes.
* The Cheltenham & North Cotswolds Region hosted their Festival coffee morning.
* A giant screen, which has been supplied by LED Sport Europe, is being used as an additional scoreboard. Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is the first County Club to take advantage of this initiative. This is a terrific innovation and the Club is extremely pleased to be part of this development, the possibilities of utilising this technology are endless. We have had a great deal of feedback, which will result in enhancements being made for our next match. However, it is the opportunities for the transfer of information in a variety of new forms that excite us.
* Nat West CricHQ - the cricket app, used by Gloucestershire Cricket, is powering today’s big screen that will be used throughout the Festival. The Nat West CricHQ app can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes store or Google play. For more information visit www.crichq.com.
* Two parties of school children from Leighterton Primary and Wellsway Primary spent the day at the Festival. They enjoyed free coaching sessions during the morning and had the opportunity of meeting with a number of Gloucestershire players.
Looking ahead to Day 3
* The Abercrombie & Kent Coaching Zone will be running free coaching sessions for juniors in the College’s lower gym.
