Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival 2013

5 June 2013

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is looking forward to its annualBrewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival, which is set in the stunning grounds of Cheltenham College.

Brewin Dolphin, who is one of the UK’s largest independently owned private client Investment Managers, is the Festival’s principal sponsor, having agreed a three-year sponsorship deal for the Cheltenham Cricket Festival in 2012.  They have been involved with Gloucestershire Cricket for over 15 years.

This year, there is additional excitement on the lead up to the Festival as Twenty20 cricket is scheduled for the very first time with 3 fixtures against Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and a local derby against Glamorgan.

Gloucestershire, who reached the FLt20 quarter-finals last season, have signed 29-year-old Australian all-rounder, Dan Christian, to strengthen their squad.  Dan, who is scheduled to arrive in the UK in a few weeks’ time, will be available for the entire competition.

The College Ground’s idyllic setting provides the perfect backdrop for this annual festival, enticing existing cricket fans and new supporters alike.  It is one of the most successful cricket festivals, regularly attracting large crowds and big cricketing stars and is the perfect venue for a summer’s day entertainment.

The Festival gets underway on Wednesday 10 July with a four-day LV= County Championship match v Kent, always good opponents at the Festival and this will be followed by a Friends Life t20 match on Sunday 14 July when Warwickshire will be our opponents.  The FLt20 match versus Northamptonshire follows on Tuesday 16 July and we then welcome back Worcestershire to Cheltenham for 4 days for the best of LV= County Championship local derbies commencing on Wednesday 17 July.  The Festival concludes with the final FLt20 match, another local derby, versus Glamorgan on Sunday 21 July.

Each day at the festival, free cricket coaching for juniors will be available at the Abercrombie & Kent coaching zone.  Mercedes-Benz of Cheltenham & Gloucester are once again supporting the festival so look out for some of their latest models on display at the ground.

Glos CCC Chief Executive, Tom Richardson, said: “We are very excited to be introducing the Friends Life t20 to Cheltenham and are confident that it will be a great success on what is a small outfield with the crowd very close to the action. We always try to have exciting fixtures at the Cheltenham College ground but, of course, we do have to take our place as one of 18 First Class Counties in what is always a scheduling challenge.  However, to have a 4-day match against Worcestershire - our northern neighbours - and local matches against Glamorgan and Warwickshire is really good news.  Kent are also good opponents so we are pleased.”

Paul NurdenDivisional Director of Brewin Dolphin, added: “We at Brewin Dolphin are also really excited at the prospect of the fixtures for this year’s festival. The three FLt20 matches in particular are an opportunity to showcase this most exciting format of the game at Cheltenham for the very first time. With the summer finally here and the team playing extremely well we eagerly anticipate the first match and hopefully 11 days of scintillating cricket.”
