Big Ton For Hamish At Northampton

2 August 2013

Hamish Marshall hit 145 as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 358 on the opening day of the LV=County Championship match against Northants at Northampton.

The experienced batsman struck 19 fours and 2 sixes in his 197-ball innings, sharing a fifth-wicket partnership of 183 with Benny Howell, who made 60.

That put Gloucestershire in a great position at 306-4, but disappointingly they were only able to add 52 more runs as David Willey, Azharullah and Andrew Hall ended with three wickets each.

By the close Northants had replied with 13 for no wicket and tomorrow promises to be pivotal in a contest, which could have a major bearing on the Second Division promotion race.

After play had ended Hamish told this website: "It was a good pitch and a case of biding my time and waiting for the loose ball, which I feel I did pretty well today.

"I'm delighted to have contributed to us getting a decent score in a very important game. We are looking to close a gap on Northants and now we need to bowl well and execute our plans to put them under pressure.

"It won't be easy, but we are right in the game and if the weather becomes more overcast batting conditions could change.

"We finished our innings poorly, which was a disappointment. Benny and I fell when set and then Northants came hard at our later order with the second new ball.

"But we have posted 350, which should make us competitive, and we need to give it everything we have got tomorrow."
