Beware Of Wounded Tigers Sussex - Alex

3 July 2014

Alex Gidman is warning his Gloucestershire team-mates that Sussex will be more dangerous than their NatWest T20 Blast record suggests when they visit the Bristol County Ground on Friday evening (5.30pm start).

The visitors have lost five of their nine games in the competition and are involved the scrap for the fourth place position, which will offer qualification for the quarter-finals at the end of the South Division matches.

Gloucestershire can draw level with their opponents by following up the thrilling win over Kent in the last NatWest Blast home game.

But Alex, who has been captaining the side during Michael Klinger's absence with a broken toe, believes Sussex are wounded tigers who will raise their game for a match of major importance to both teams.

He told this website: "Sussex have been a crack one-day side for a number of years and I am sure they are disappointed with their T20 form this season.

"That makes them especially dangerous opponents. They have a lot of quality one-day players and we will need to be on top of our game to beat them.

"The Kent win was a huge one for us in terms of keeping us in touch with fourth place and we deserved to win a close one because have been on the wrong end of a couple of narrow defeats.

"Our squad is stretched to the limit by injuries, but the players available have shown their willingness to work hard and execute our T20 skills.

"If we can beat Sussex we will be right in the shake-up to reach the quarter-finals so it is another big evening for us."
