7 January 2025
Australian all-rounder Beau Webster's stellar Test debut for Australia against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground marks the latest chapter in an exceptional cricketing journey, one that included a transformative summer with Gloucestershire in 2024.
During his stint with Gloucestershire, Webster's all-round ability shone throughout the Vitality Blast group stage, helping Shire reach the knockout phase for the first time since 2020. In County Championship cricket, he delivered 233 runs at an average of 58.25 and claimed five-wicket hauls at Bristol and Cheltenham, showcasing his ability to adapt to English conditions.
Following a successful season with Gloucestershire and an impressive start to the 2024/25 Sheffield Shield campaign with Tasmania, Webster seamlessly transitioned to the Test arena in the New Year Test in Sydney. His crucial 57 in the first innings steadied Australia after an early collapse, and he followed it with an unbeaten 34 in the second, guiding his side to a series-clinching victory against India.
Webster’s journey from county cricket to the pinnacle of Test cricket is a testament to his development in 2024. With his skills finely tuned during his summer in England and domestic performances back home, he has positioned himself as a rising star in Australian cricket.
