Audio interview: Peter Handscomb on his hopes for the season

14 April 2015

Fresh off the plane from Australia Gloucestershire’s new overseas signing Peter Handscomb gave his first impressions on Gloucestershire Cricket, his new team mates and his hopes for the season ahead.

The 23-year-old from Melbourne, who holds a British passport, was one of only two players to make a Big Bash League hundred in this year’s competition – along with Michael Klinger - and has been called up for Australia A after averaging over 53 in the Sheffield Shield domestic competition.

On his new team mates he said: “It’s an awesome dressing room with a mixture of young lads and a few older experienced guys in the group. It’s a great mixture.

“There’s no reason why we can’t challenge for the Championship.”

On the Bristol County Ground he said:

“The ground is in amazing condition with a nice wicket to bat on so I am looking forward to the season ahead and making a few runs on it.”

On coming to the UK and his international allegiance he said: “Both my Mum and Dad are English but I am well and truly Australian.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play First Class cricket here and test myself in these conditions.”

On what Gloucestershire fans can expect he said: “Runs, hopefully runs – it doesn’t matter how you get them. Hopefully in the T20 I can clear the ropes a few times,”
