Alex Hits Some Form At SWALEC Stadium
20 March 2014
Alex Gidman was undefeated on 40 when rain brought a premature end to the first day of the two-day friendly against Glamorgan at Cardiff.
Gloucestershire were 111-3 when the umpires abandoned play at 4pm, Hamish Marshall (20 not out) having helped Gidman add 43 for the fourth wicket.
Graham Wagg made the initial breakthrough as he trapped Chris Dent leg-before for 10 in the fifth over of the morning.
Will Tavare was next to go for 11 with the total on 37 as he became the second lbw victim of the day in Jim Allenby’s third over.
Gidman struck a boundary through extra cover to bring up the fifty before greeting the left-arm spin of Dean Cosker by despatching him through the same area for another boundary.
Andrew Salter's off-spin was also introduced after 24 overs and in his opening over he nearly had Ian Cockbain caught at slip by Allenby.
But the Gloucestershire batsman was less fortunate in the following over from Cosker as he was clean bowled by the veteran spinner for 24.
Marshall announced his arrival at the crease by cover-driving Salter, while Gidman also drilled the youngster through mid-off for four.
Wagg returned to the attack after lunch, but after three overs rain started to fall and the players left the field. By then Gidman had faced 52 balls and struck 5 fours.
There was no break in the weather and the match will resume and finish tomorrow when 96 overs are due to be bowled.
