The last few weeks have been very different for me.  I have been doing some work experience at Novo Executive Search, an Executive Recruitment Company based in Bristol, learning the art of recruitment.  This has been more than just an insight into a new ‘trade,’ it was about learning about myself and what it's like not to play cricket.

There were aspects which I enjoyed - learning how different people work, their attitude towards their own success and the success of their business.  I also experienced working under a different boss, in this case there were three bosses that I reported in to.  I found it fascinating to see how the whole process of finding one placement worked, from the first phone call to a candidate's first day at work.

On the flip side, there were non-negotiable aspects of work that were pretty uncomfortable - 8.30 am starts to 5.30 pm every day, one hour for lunch - just things I'm simply not used to.  Having to work on a computer - help!

There is no doubt it has been a great experience, and something I will do more of.  It's crucial that all our players try and set themselves up for life after cricket.  I never thought the day would come when I would have to consider my future, but everyone has to at some point!

I am lucky that I have a few playing years left, so I am really excited about joining the boys next week to crack on with the start of the winter training.
