A letter from the Gloucestershire Cricket Trust

1 April 2015

Since leaving the Club in August 2013 I have been working as Trustee for 2 charities one of which is the Gloucestershire Cricket Trust which has morphed out of the Youth Trust.  Our priority is to raise its profile and its income.

With this in mind, we have put together a group of Trustees, Chris Coley, Peter Jubb, Kevin Jones and Guy Price who have the wellbeing of cricket in Gloucestershire and Bristol at heart.  We have changed the name, and widened the focus, to include, community projects with a cricket or health bias.

The Goals of the Trust are:

  • To inspire young people to fulfil their potential through cricket.
  • To develop and grow the Trust in order to support the game of cricket in Gloucestershire and Bristol for the benefit of young people.
  • To promote the provision of expertise; and/or guidance and/or financial assistance for young people to achieve their full potential in cricket.
  • To promote community participation in healthy recreation and physical activity by facilitating the playing of cricket and related physical and/or recreational activity for such persons who have the need for such activities by reason of their youth, ethnicity, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.

We have also hired a part time fund raiser and we have looked to raise funds from donations in general and for specific projects.  Of the specific projects there has been a marked interest in disability projects and we intend to spend more time and effort on this area this year.

In the past 12 months, we will have:

  • Funded the Gloucestershire Emerging Player Programme for 2015. This is an annual programme that provides the very best Gloucestershire players, boys and girls, with the training and support an ‘Elite Cricketer’ requires – from 1-2-1’s to Strengthen & Conditioning support and even including nutritional and lifestyle advice.
  • With the money we have received, specifically for disability cricket, funding a project at Frenchay Cricket Club, table cricket and we are contributing towards programs for visually impaired and deaf people.
  • Supported the Club’s Academy Summer Scholarship programme which is an essential part of bringing on the County’s best young cricketers.
  • Supported community programmes including: helping those with MS to stay independent; a project for people with memory issues which is based at the Club and a healthy project for young people.
  • Made a grant towards an inflatable bowling cage for children’s projects as well as a couple of minor grants.

We are very pleased to be able to help with these programmes and very grateful to those who have been kind enough to donate money to these very worthwhile causes.  However, we need to be able to do this on a continuing basis plus there are calls for help from areas ranging from disability cricket on schools and age group cricket to supporting our best young cricketers to go overseas in the winter.

I hope 2015 is a really good year for the Club and all its teams and we would be hugely grateful for any help you can give the Trust.  Any donation no matter how small will help enormously.  However, we are also asking for assistance in “spreading the word” and helping to raise our profile.
